I won a Woody!

A Woody Woodpecker soft toy that is…

I entered a competition in a trade magazine as a bit if a laugh and got a surprise when I received the email telling me I had won.

Woody will be going to a nice home as a xmas present, unless I decide to keep him…

Great Recycling Facilities

We decided to take a drive to Beaconsfield today to shop at Sainsbury’s (my wife’s favourite Sainsbury’s within a 25 mile radius of our house) and as we had a lot of recycling I Googled ‘Beaconsfield Recycling’ and was rewarded with a link to a purpose built facility, enroute!

We took as much as the car could carry and emptied the entire load.
We were surprised to find this was a managed site with friendly and helpful staff, ensuring the right waste products were being deposited in the right skips.

We will be saving our recycling and visiting monthly as the experience was far better than our local facility.

Well done Beaconsfield for allowing this great site to be built and managed!

Feeding the Ducks

Today we took a drive to Letchmore Heath to feed the thriving duck population a few part loaves of bread we had been storing for them. There were about 50 ducks of varying species and all seemd pretty friendly, coming right to our feet and quacking to be fed.

There are a number of Chestnut Trees providing an abundance of winter food for squirrels and we saw a number of them happily playing and gathering nuts.

On the drive back home we saw a few more as well, they were out in force in the sunshine getting sun on their fur for what may be the last time this summer as the leaves have started to turn indicating that we are now heading into Autumn.

We are about to renew our RSPB membership too, roll on winter bird watching…

All Blacks - Tri-Nations and Bledisloe Cup Holders - 2008

Well done AB’s - capping off a good series with a win over Australia this morning to clinch the Tri-Nations and the Bledisloe Cup (with 1 game in hand).

Happy Birthday GeeGee’s

Happy Birthday to all !!

Egg Miles - a cracking concept!

Mike and the team at Organiclinker have come up with an egg-miles calculator.

http://www.organiclinker.com/egg-miles.cfm

Now, if only they can get this onto a handheld device to rebut spurious claims of locally produced eggs at Farmers Markets.

Last weekend we went to Faversham, and bought ‘local eggs’ that were actually from Lincolnshire, closer to my place than the market we visited! Outrageous!!

Fore!! (back into Golf)

I’m getting back into golf after a layoff of more than a few years.

The last time I played was December 2005, on my Stag Doo, at Formosa Country Club.
We have a great driving range and 14 courses within a 4 mile radius, so I’m in a great place to play golf.

I tested out some clubs today with a view to buying them and have sore arms as a result. They’re more used to typing and shuffling paper than hitting a golf ball.

Technology has improved since I last owned a set of clubs so I’ll be purchasing graphite instead of steel shafted clubs with much better sweet spots, lighter drivers and easier to use fairway woods as well.

I can’t wait to get out for a walk and enjoy the fresh air in the evenings - now I have no excuses not to!

What a mess (walls)

Our walls are in the process of being stripped back ready for sanding and lining before painting.
What a mess! There is dust and little bits of flaky paint and wallpaper everywhere.

The great news is they are now a blank canvas so we will get a quote to get them lined before painting.

We are off to B&Q tomorrow to pick up some Polyfiller (we might need a large box of it)

Using Tags in Wordpress

I always read other peoples blogging tips but have not yet seen anyone promoting the use of the Tags function in Wordpress 2.5 or later versions.

I have recently updated all of my blogs and enabled the tag function and have seen search engine result placements rise pretty quickly.

It would appear that bots and spiders are hungry for tags and I’ll continue to feed them what they like, knowing that they will come again to check for more ‘food’ at more regular intervals.

You’ll note to the right hand side of this blog entry is my Tag Cloud
Clicking on the words in this cloud will take you to a relevant post, almost like a Wiki entry does.

The Tags function is enabled in the Widgets options in Wordpress.
Activate yours today and watch the results unfold over the coming weeks using Rank Checker from seobook.com or the Digitalpoint Keywords Tool from digitalpoint.com
