What are they thinking? Are they mad?
It’s not that hard to do, and £100 fine plus interest is more than most accountants will charge you for the privilege of filling in your return.
I submitted mine online on Boxing Day (yeah I know, shouldn’t have been anywhere near the laptop, but I got it done!) and I received a cheque dated 04 January 2006 for the payment to me.
Now that’s service!
Well, considering HMCE makes roughly £900m a year from stupidity/laziness alone, they should have a pretty good system to deal with those of us who submit on time.
P.S If your’re reading this and thinking “I should get around to doing this now” you’re probably too late.

The last thing you’d expect to see is a blind man with a cane and a large (very large) box trying to fight his way through a crowded train carriage to get a seat, taking out innocent bystanders in the process … well thats exacttly what happened today on my carriage.
What a joke, a simple ‘excuse me’ would have been sufficient, but no! just a push and a shove and minor skirmishes with the box at right angles bashing everyone around him.
Nett result: 1 seat + 50 angry commuters

This weekend we are participating in the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch.
Apparently Starling numbers are in decline across the UK. Not in our garden though it would seem, with 11 hanging off our suet cake this afternoon.
Out of the top 20 species we have only 2 that don’t visit us, but we have several of the rarer species such as Siskins.
For a small suburban garden we have an abundance of wildlife, blighted only by the fact that a cat or two also like to call our garden home, but only until they are spotted and chased away.

Sums up my emotions yesterday when I felt the snowflakes dropping onto my nose and the pavement in front of me. I had expected these as my wife had called earlier in the afternoon to say that it was snowing at home (the other side of the Thames from where I work). Sadly the snow didn’t stick around for too long and never quite settled - but, it was a nice token gesture.
More snow in February please, but this time back the truck up and drop it in my backyard so thick it covers everything

is only 1p/min…
Calling home (NZ) is pretty cheap these days
We’ve racked up an impressive 3 hours talktime over the past 2 evenings, and have shared some great times with friends and family (and have left several strange amswerphone messages too :))
The time difference is pretty good in wintertime, and calling in the evening UK time is ideal for when our friends are waking up to start their weekends.
A few years back (and even those BT Customers without calling cards) people would never have dreamed of calling New Zealand (or any country in another timezone) without first calling their bank manager to arrange a second mortgage.
Our preferred calling card company used to offer free calls to NZ using our mobile phones free minutes allowance, presumably banking these for use for their paying minutes subscribers. I could never work out how they did that, perhaps someone could enlighten me.

It would appear that throughout January I didn’t blog on Tuesdays or Thursdays. Quite a strange pattern, considering many of you browsed inzvestor.co.uk on a Thursday - my highest hits day of the week.
In February I will be blogging everyday (where possible) and trying out a new SE strategy, relating to keywords and their placement within the text, to guage the response of the spiders that visit daily.

Success is not a destination - It’s a journey
I heard this quote today and thought it is a great mantra
All too often I hear people talking of ‘dreaming of success’
Why just dream about it when you can create it?
Not everyone has a creative urge, but those who do should unleash it.
Red Tiger Design have unleashed their creative side and encourage you to apply yourself in a creative sense also.

Friday 27 January 2006 - Snow is predicted in London
Lets see if it actually happens this time
Lots of false alarms so far this winter.
It’s certainly been a wee bit chillier lately, which is great, I don’t mind it one bit. At least theres not constant rain here for days (weeks) on end…
I’ll let you know if I get snow…

Have made the change to T-Mobile, after a loooooong stint with Vodafone.
Tonight I picked up (and with a little help have also setup) my new MDA Vario.
I’ve setup email contacts, synced with my wi-fi network and will build the profile and contact list tomorrow.
I feel free at last…
and, I’m saving well over £150 this year just by switching providers.

Are we mad? I’ll let you be the judge.
Yesterday we had a bbq, in -6c, on a bright and clear day in the German countryside, not too far from Bremen.
It was so cold that our glasses of water had ice forming on them.
We were toasting marshmallows and bratwurst on long sticks that had been whittled down to a pointed end, and drinking Kirsch (Cherry) Schnapps and Becks Gold, a brand we don’t yet have in the UK, but it is divine, and we have asked our friends to bring a few bottles with them when they visit us in April (for Easter)
We flew to Bremen for the weekend on a new route operated by easyJet (from Luton) and arrived in little over an hour. We were met by our friends and whisked home to the warm open fire. There were a few snowflakes but not enough to settle.
The goldfish pond was frozen (about 1/2 a foot thick) yet the goldfish were still swimming around below - boy they must have been cold. The cat was skating around on top, enjoying being in the middle of the pond, yet wondering why she couldn’t get to the fish.
We would have loved to have stayed for longer, but we had to be back at work again today…
It won’t be long till we travel to Germany again.
