I was coaxed out of my shell into the back-streets of Croydon tonight, walked into a pub that I have never been into and knew over half the patrons.
There was a mixture of ex-colleagues and my wife’s colleagues, all of whom knew me, and we had a right laugh.
Even some strangely familiar faces from NZ were there - talk about a small world.
I’ve just arrived home now, after a BK meal and a couple of slices of toast&lime-curd, the first food I have eaten today, and feel almost human again.
Mental note: Must eat more …

I’m looking forward to Sunday night’s dinner - Haggis, Neeps and Tatties followed by a dram (or 3) of Whisky
After a relaxing 5 hour train trip I’m looking forward to stretching my legs up the Royal Mile and visiting a pub I went to a few years back (last trip to Edinburgh was in May 2002), and visiting a recommended coffee shop.
I’ll blog from on the train and hope there are no major delays - would hate to be stuck in York for ages (where my change is…)

I decided to allow comments on my blog, but have since switched this function back off after being hit with numerous spams from an identifiable ip address. Most were for mobile phone companies and some for donkey-porn, all were blocked. I hate spam (and have several recipes to make use of the huge amount I receive every day), but it peeves me most when it invades my personal space - my blog!
I’ll try and keep the blog as uncluttered as possible, but would dearly love to switch the comments function back on. Does anyone know of a good spam-blocker for wordpress?
Blogging Tips
I was asked the million dollar question the other night (well 2 questions really)
Q1: Lime Cheese or Chocolate?
If I could only have 1 this week, what would it be?
Q2: Lime Cheese or Chocolate
If I had to choose only 1 (and the other would cease to exist) what would it be?
Well, those who know me know I am a chcoholic, but also crave Lime Cheese (aka Lime Curd) and when Lime Cheese is not available, Lemon Curd (also known as lemon honey)
My answers to the questions were not surprising.
Q1: Lime Cheese - I could survive on this for a year or so (if ever there was a chocolate shortage)
Q2: Chocolate all the way. Alot more versatile and many different flavour combinations.
But, that said, it was a hard decision!

My morning commute is spent absorbing podcast content on a daily basis. But I’m left wanting more. My favourite podcasts are not released daily, so I mix them with my favourite artists, which according to iTunes is Jack Johnson (occupying all 25 spots on the list). The are not enough quality podcasts in the genres of interest to me.
I’d love to find more UK and NZ based business/entrepreneurial, coffee, wine and aeromodelling podcasts . Knowledge is a powerful thing, and what better way to skill up on a subject than a quality time in what would otherwise be dead-time.

The World Pooh-sticks championship took place this afternoon.
How on earth Japan came to be the defending title-holders is anybody’s guess.
Read the article for more information.
What does the practice involve? hydro-flow analysis of the river/lock? are modifications to the stick allowed? is there a handicapping (or grid system?), and more importantly, what are the cheerleaders like?
A sport for people with too much time on their hands… BUT the proceeds go to worthy causes, so all is not lost

Cyril’s back and fatter than ever.
Although squirrels don’t hibernate, they certainly don’t burn energy over the winter months, tucked up nice and warm in their drays.
My Cyril is the fattest we have seen him, probably from eating too many hazelnuts and peanuts - I hope he’s shared a few with Mrs Cyril. He took a load home with him so perhaps he’s feeding the young.
When the weather warms up we’re likely to see Cyril at least twice a day. Hopefully they’ll bring their offspring into our garden and raise them in our safe garden.

Just got in from The Hope, our local in SW12, where there was a relaxed vibe and not too many weirdo’s (well the last part’s not strictly true - there were a couple, and they managed to seat themselves next to us)
We were sat in the Non-Smoking section (a new addition to The Hope) the weirdo’s who also happened to be smokers decided to blatantly ignore this, and took the no-smoking sign off the table each time they lit-up (as ‘he’ was a chainsmoker that was 90% of the time) and put it back up when ’she’ decided to smooch/grope/play-tonsil-hockey (you get the picture…)
We’re feeling great after Squash today, and will make another court reservation next Saturday or Sunday - it is so addictive.
I burned 441 calories in a 35 min workout (as many as I do in a 45 minute workout at the gym, and the heart was in the target zone for a sustained period too. I’ll measure a skating workout once the weather improves, and am looking to lose a few pounds this summer…

In the bright sunlight this morning (23c by our thermometer) we got out into the garden and cleared a few stray leaves from the flowerbeds.
We have a riot of colour ready to erupt, with Tulips, Aliums and Nigellas starting to show promise.

Our Crocus have been in flower for some time (as shown below) but are looking great.

Temp has dropped back to 14c now and we are going to get rain this afternoon.
Looking forward to a roast pork for dinner, with all the trimmings, before heading out for a beer at The Hope, our local in SW12.

If only we could all be as lucky as this man.
What are the odds?
The best I come up with is £2 on a scratchie or a tenner in the Lotto…
Oh well, lets see what happens tomorrow.
