The Weekly Farmers Markets Trip
Each weekend we head off to a Farmers Market to buy our fruit and vegetables.
The taste is so fresh and vibrant, unlike the supermarket equivalents that travel halfway around the world.
Recently we bought Squash from Tonga (we shouldn’t have due to food miles but there was no local butternut squash available) - we felt bad for doing so but it seems that it was scarce in Europe and ironically cheaper as well.
This weekend we will be at Wimbledon so will be looking for a Farmers Market in South London or towards East Sussex / Kent.
We recently came across http://www.farmersmarkets.net/ and use this as our resource for research.
Not all markets are listed on it (like Harpenden - third Sunday of the month) but the ones with a level of accreditation are.
Through farmers markets we have discovered Pheasant, Quince, Mature cheese and a dazzling array of herbs.
We support organic thinking and always take our recycled jute bags along, declining to take wrapped produce.
Have you been to a farmers market lately?
